Austrian plans flights to Baghdad
Austrian Airlines plans to start flights between Vienna and Baghdad Oct. 31. The resumption is conditional upon a flight safety analysis undertaken by the Austrian Airlines safety team in Baghdad in cooperation with national and international authorities.
If the analysis is positive, Austrian will fly four times each week to Baghdad with the Austrian Premium Service A320. Austrian has been flying to Erbil in northern Iraq since 2006. The Baghdad route was flown in 1982, but withdrawn during the Kuwait crisis in 1990.
Lufthansa will also be flying to Baghdad four times a week from Munich. By coordinating their services, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines will offer one return flight a day between Europe and Baghdad, with two flights a day on Sundays.
